Ordination of Dilip Tirkey MHM

Dilip was ordained on 5th May 2009 in his home parish of Ransama, Jashpur Diocese in Chhatisgarh, India by Rt Rev Paul Toppo, DD, the Bishop of Raigarh.  The Ordination Mass began as early as 7.00 am and was attended by about 1200 people.  Together with the Bishop, there were 30 priests concelebrating.

After the ordination Mass, there was a short cultural programme before lunch was served. This lunch had been prepared by the parish community for all present.  After the celebratory lunch, Dilip was taken in a chariot to his home.  The procession was accompanied with singing and dancing joined in by both young and old alike.

The next day Dilip celebrated his first Mass at home with his family, relatives and the villagers. Being the youngest child in a family of 6 girls and 2 boys, his mother was overjoyed to see her youngest son celebrating Mass at the altar. It was also a very joyful moment for Dilip as his family had waited a long time for this moment.  Dilip is very thankful to all those who have helped him along the road to being a Mill Hill Missionary priest.
