Brother Chris: A Profile

Interview with Brother Chris

Brother Chris Barton celebrates his 100th year with the Mill Hill Family

On Wednesday, 1 August 2007 Br Chris Barton must have been the proudest member alive in the Society. Members of the Society gathered together at Herbert House, Freshfield for a grand 100th birthday celebration. He will go down in Mill Hill history as being the longest lived member unless, of course, he cares to share his secret for staying 'young' with the other members who live with him in Herbert House, Freshfield, the home of the retired members in the Bristish Region.

The day started with the celebration of Mass to offer thanksgiving for the life of Br. Chris at 10.30 a.m. Fr. Bernard Fox, the British Regional, was the presider. He started the Mass by reading a letter to the Superior by Fr. Francis Turner, the Parish Priest of Br. Chris concerning his desire to be a lay brother. Fr Jim Daley gave a glowing tribute about Br. Chris after the Gospel. At the end of Mass, Br. Eddie Slawinski presented Br. Chris with a printed copy of the interview he did with him three years ago. After "Gaudium" which followed Mass, those present were treated to a wonderful meal prepared by Sr. Sarah and her team.

The First Reading was read by Sr. Anne FMSJ
