In his homily the General Superior spoke of the importance of today’s feast of Peter and Paul to the mission of the Church.  St Peter whose gift of leadership and commitment to preserving the tradition of the House of Israel contrasts with St Paul’s gift of preaching the gospel of Christ to the nation.  Each in his own way contributed to the foundation of the Church as we know it.

Likewise in our own missionary society, we have many different kinds of missionaries: those who celebrate our past and those who look forward to a new future, and what keeps us together is our focus on Jesus.

We know of God’s love in Jesus Christ but what is more important is our own love for him.  The Lord Jesus asks Peter, “Do you love me?” and then commissions him to serve.  The love of Jesus is the starting point of our service as Mill Hill Missionaries.  The love we have for Jesus is the beginning of our love for others.  The conclusion is that the love we have for Jesus may lead us to places we would rather not go, both personally and as a Society but, as always what is more important is the journey, not the destination.  As Mill Hill Missionaries we journey together knowing that Christ is with us, loving us, and bringing us to fulfillment in him.

After Mass, the Assembly proceeded to Vaughan House for the blessing
